OU CLUB OF COLORADO WELCOMES FELLOW ALUMS & FRIENDS
As President of the OU Club of Colorado, I welcome fellow alums, friends, and supporters of the university to the club and look forward to seeing you at our events throughout the year. These functions allow you to meet with other OU alums and reminisce about Norman, while giving you the opportunity to network professionally.
Club membership is open to anyone who attended OU or is a fan, friend or supporter of the university. We welcome you, your friends and associates to join the Club for a very nominal membership fee (tax deductible) that includes complimentary OU gear. You can join at any of the OU football “game watches” or by contacting me directly at the number below. By joining, you help keep the club active and enable us to put on functions at a reduced cost, including the activities that take place during the football “game watches”.
The OU Club of Colorado has recently joined with the other Big XII Alumni Clubs of Colorado to form the “Rocky Mountain 12 Alumni Association”. The mission of the Association “is to promote community service in the name of the Big XII schools, foster sportsmanship between the universities, and interact for the betterment of those involved”. We will be teaming up with “name” charities throughout the year to assist them with promoting their cause and fundraising. By forming the “Rocky Mountain 12 Alumni Association”, the presidents of the schools felt that we would be able to assist the community and increase attendance at social functions we hold as one organization.
One of the goals of the Club is to offer partial scholarships to students from Colorado who will be attending OU. Last year, because of your generosity and donations, we were able to give a $1,000 scholarship to Shea Holden of Trinidad, CO., who graduated with honors from Trinidad H.S. She has completed her freshman year at OU with a 4.0 GPA in pre-nursing, while also working at the University. If you know of anyone from Colorado who is attending OU and would like to apply for a partial scholarship, please have him or her call Dave Hail (405 325 0317) for an application.
Now let’s talk OU FOOTBALL!! We will again be having the “game watches” at Jackson’s Restaurant on 20th St (across from Coors Field). Please check your e-mails for times, etc. We have confirmed a live “locker room chat” from a special guest visitor at one of the “game watches” (to be announced). Former OU recruiting coordinator Jerry Pettibone, who served under coaches Chuck Fairbanks and Barry Switzer will be speaking about his days at OU. Jerry was the first full-time recruiting coordinator in the country. He and his staff recruited what is still called “the best recruiting class ever” in 1974 when 17 of his 25 high school recruits went on to play in the NFL. We will continue our raffles, trivia contests, and sports auctions, so plan on being there and cheer on the team!
If we don’t have your e-mail address (or it has recently changed) and would like to receive information about the club and activities, please e-mail me at the address below.
I look forward to seeing you at our events and throughout the year!
BOOMER SOONER!
